Best Museums Around Hakone

ABOUT

Explore Hakone seeks to provide once in a life-time travel experience for our customers. We are dedicated to sharing our unique and rich local history and culture, beautiful nature, and the meeting of people in the community

The Hakone area is home to one of the most interesting and eclectic grouping of museums in the world. All museums are easily accessible from one another and give wonderful experiences, insights, and opportunities for visitors to learn and see more.

LALIQUE MUSEUM HAKONE

The Lalique Museum is dedicated to the renown works of Rene Lalique. The glass sculptures on display are splendid. The museum also has a car from the Orient Express on exhibit. Located in the Sengokuhara area, it is one of my favorite museums in Hakone and I highly recommend this one.

POLA MUSEUM OF ART

A visit to the POLA museum in the Sengokuhara area gives you the opportunity to see a number of works by artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, and many others. The impressive collection of wonderful works by world-renowned Western artists is but a short bus ride from Gora Station. The wooded surroundings hide a treasure of artwork.

THE HAKONE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM

The exhibits at the Hakone Open-Air Museum are world-class. The surrounding mountains are a wonderfully beautiful backdrop to the sculptures by Rodin, Degas, Moore and others. The Picasso Pavilion has one of the largest collections of the artist’s work in the world. The Chokoku No Mori Station on the Hakone Tozan Train line is a two minute walk from the entrance.

NARUKAWA ART MUSEUM

The Narukawa Art Museum in Moto Hakone displays works by famous Japanese artists in the Nihonga style. The refined collection gives a wonderful insight and examples of Asian art with Western influence. The mountain setting for this museum gives wonderful views of Lake Ashi and the village of Moto Hakone below.

HIRAGA KEI ART MUSEUM

An impressive preservation of a summer retreat for an influential politician is now the home to the Hiraga Kei Art Museum in Yumoto. The artist spent much of his time in the Parisian Avant-Garde scene of the early 20th century. The often erotic portraits are an interesting contrast to the sublime architecture of the reformed Japanese residence.

OKADA MUSEUM OF ART

The recently opened Okada Museum of Art displays an eclectic and distinguished collection of Japanese art, crafts, and sculptures. The works are impressive in their historical context as well as their aesthetic beauty.

THE LITTLE PRINCE MUSEUM

The Little Prince Museum is dedicated to the famous work of Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Stroll the themed grounds of this insightful and pleasant museum after learning and experiencing the life of the author, and the characters he created. The pleasant surrounding of Sengokuhara is a great setting for this wonderful dedication to a classic noble.

THE GLASS MUSEUM

The Glass Museum in Sengokuhara gives visitors the opportunity to see beautiful artwork made from the glass medium. There are pieces from the famed artists of Venice and more.
